Escaping The Crow's Den after the events of The Trial of The Crow, the travelers head north towards The Putrid Forest.
The group finds themselves in a desolate swamp, empty save for the croak of toads and a small hut in the distance.
On approach, they greeted by a hag in the swamp.
She is an old woman who laughs about the travelers and asks to borrow a Flame or Ember from one of them.
Traveler Saitama quickly responds, and upon earning her trust, she returns the flame and reveals that she is The Hag of Detriti.
The hag explains that long ago Detriti was once a young witch traversing The Putrid Forest and that she was pursued by the Corrupted Wormlords in an attempt to convert her into their kind. Yet, she escaped capture and found means to control the Scales of The Nameless Serpent and harness the creative powers of death.
She traveled across the lands and gained an affinity with the Red-Eyed Toads of The Desolate Wastes and The Glutton who had been Piyu the Godling's guardian while exploring her newfound powers. She established The Coven of Detriti and transformed the world, creating gruesome and marvelous creations; amalggams, spirits, and horrific creatures - but they are no more.
Suddenly, the hut and The Hag of Detriti vanish, leaving the travelers alone in the swamp.
Out in the distance a large structure can be seen, and they head towards it.
Shortly after encountering The Hag of Detriti, a series of donations to charities supporting the Women's Movement were made, in light of the U.S. Supreme Court's recanting of Roe vs. Wade. Donations were made to NARAL Pro-Choice America Foundation ($56,988 USD), Fòs Feminista ($32,137 USD), and SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective ($32,137 USD).
The travelers continue through the swamp which grows thicker as they approach the structure they had been progressing towards. They discover it a large organic structure, seemingly alive in the way it pulses. This is The Coven's Lair.
The group is approached by Elizabeth of the Coven of Detriti who was expecting them. She introduces herself and tells all that The Cycle is approaching its next phase.
She entreats that The Coven does not care about The Two and that they shape the world with their creations, absent of gods. The Coven's Lair is their home, but will only open through a show of creative power.
The travelers respond with art, and once enough effigies are offered, The Lair opens and declares the ritual will soon begin.
Some who produced effigies for Detriti received Tokens of Concord from her; Cauldrons and Toads.
Many also become aware of her Witches Brush and continue making artworks in hopes of earning one.
