Dornbad the Dull is an empty vessel and former Wizard of Her. His soul was destroyed in a ritual intended to save his Master from death. While the ritual failed, Dornbad was able to transfer the soul of his Master to a nearby hat. Dornbad is incapable of speech and can't process any information on his own. His body is controlled by the soul of his Master sealed within Dornbad's hat. Dornbad's Master can only control Dornbad through physical contact, and now seeks the Nameless Serpent for the knowledge to restore Dornbad's shattered soul.
Dornbad met his Master at the Church of Her, where he became a Devotee of Her. He learned both Fire and Light spells from his Master, earning him the name Dornbad of the Dawn. One day, Dornbad's Master was grievously wounded in a confrontation with Darkblade Disciples. To save his Master's life, Dornbad invoked the Light of Her in an attempt to heal his Master's wounds. The ritual darkened Dornbad's skin and his muscle withered from his bones as his lifeforce was leeched by Her Light. The spell was unable to complete before Dornbad became too weak to continue, and in desperation, Dornbad sacrificed his own soul to transfer his Master's soul to a captured Darkblade Disciple. Unfortunately, Dornbad lost consciousness in the final moment, and accidentally transferred the soul of his Master into Darkblade Disciple's hat instead.
The origins of Dornbad's Master are unknown. It is speculated that Dornbad's Master was once cursed with eternal life by the Artifical God. As Dornbad's Master suffered from never-ending life and creeping insanity, she provoked the Darkblades in an attempt to die in combat in order to retain Her blessing. Whether Dornbad's Master has been cured of insanity after the soul transfer is unknown.
